Llandudno Villas

Don’t be put off by the incongruous Welsh spelling (and there’s no need for the throaty pronunciation of the opening syllable here either): Llandudno may be named after the coastal resort in Wales but this one is an exceptionally beautiful cove situated along an exceptionally beautiful stretch of road between Camps Bay and Hout Bay, a 20-minute drive from Cape Town.

In many ways shaped by the huge granite boulders that litter the mountain slopes and beach, Llandudno has long been on the ‘best kept secret in Cape Town’ list. Home to an ancient history dating back to the enigmatic ‘Strandlopers’ who used to patrol these wild coastlines before the colonists arrived, there are no bars, shops or restaurants in Llandudno, meaning the village is quiet and clean, and with little parking to spare next to the beach means it is never overcrowded.

A favourite among local families, surfers and modest models who don’t feel the need to be seen, Llandudno offers a more relaxed and less self-conscious beach experience than its more glamorous cousins of Clifton or Camps Bay, and its lack of facilities and retail outlets encourages an atmosphere of privacy and exclusivity.

This is one of Cape Town’s quietest and most understated beachfront suburbs but there’s no shortage of allure when it comes to accommodation: lining the steep hill sides above the pretty, curved beach are some of the most desirable houses in Cape Town, and some delightful Llandudno villa accommodation

And it’s not like you’re going to miss out on fine wining and dining: the various shops and restaurants of Camps Bay and Hout Bay are only a few minutes’ drive away and make it easy to whip up a meal in the well-equipped kitchen of your Llandudno private villa or make a booking at an ocean-facing restaurant.

Likewise, it’s a short drive inland into the winelands of Constantia and if you’re really feeling up for an adventure why not hire a car and explore the rest of the Peninsula? You’re halfway to the big game and big views of Cape Point already and you could return to Llandudno via the fishing villages of the False Bay coastline.
