Cape Town is regularly voted one of the top cities and tourist destinations in the world. It is easy to see why – the city at the tip of the African continent is vibey and cosmopolitan, situated in a natural bowl on the slopes of Table Mountain on the one side and the wide open expanse of the Atlantic Ocean on the other side.
In addition to the geographical splendour of Table Mountain and Lion’s Head, the city’s natural attractions include various top-rated beaches at Clifton, Camps Bay and Llandudno. Here you will find soft sandy beaches and beautiful waves as well as granite boulders sparkling in the water.
Many visitors to Cape Town prefer to stay in the city itself to be closer to the beachfront restaurants and bars, a promenade that lines the sea as well as a shopping and entertainment complex at the V&A Waterfront where boat rides and cruises around the harbour, out on the ocean and to Robben Island may be booked.

Visitors can choose to stay in the heart of the city and close the CBD. There are many lovely villas in elevated locations, overlooking Table Bay and the harbour for the unmatched city and ocean views.

Things to do in Cape Town
There is something for everyone in Cape Town. This is why it is such a perfect family destination. For families with younger children, there are many parks and play areas as well as the Company Gardens in the city centre.
The Company Gardens is one of the oldest sites in Cape Town. Originally laid out by the city’s founding father, Jan van Riebeeck, this vegetable garden was started to provide food for sailors coming to the Cape of Good Hope – as Cape Town was formerly called.
Today the Company Gardens contain lovely walks, large trees and cute squirrels that provide hours of delight for small children. Museums, as well as the Planetarium, are situated nearby.
When staying in accommodation in Cape Town’s city centre, a quick dash to the V&A Waterfront is also possible. With its large working harbour, the many shops and restaurants, art cinemas and boutique spots are an invitation to spend a few hours browsing the work of top local designers as well as some fine African art and craft work.
Excursions up Table Mountain are always popular and even small children and babies can make the trip up the cable car. The view from the top of the mountain is unbelievable, extending over the ocean to include Robben Island and far across the Cape Flats.
The mother of all South African cities
Cape Town is loved deeply by its residents and known affectionately as the Mother City as it is the oldest in the country.
Although the sea may be colder than on the east coast, the undeniable beauty of Cape Town makes it a favourite with all South Africans and during the holiday seasons the city can become quite crowded.
Most cities don’t have scenic central business districts, but Cape Town is an exception. There are many renovated Victorian buildings, historic houses and churches and colourful markets to browse. Greenmarket Square is situated on old cobbled roads and offers tourists a wide range of arts and crafts from all over Africa.
In and around Cape Town
Villas in Cape Town are also well-situated if you want to drive about and explore the immediate surrounds. The Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, for instance, are only about 20 minutes from the city centre and a recommended destination for families. Beautiful gardens, world-class restaurants and a treetop walkway will delight the kids and provide refreshment and relaxation among the lush gardens.
Other options include going to Cape Point – the most southwestern point of the African continent. Spectacular views from the lighthouse are a photographer’s dream. There is a funicular or a walk up the hill for a view of the ocean that will take your breath away.
Accommodation in Cape Town central provides visitors with a choice of activities and holiday options.
