Bantry Bay is an upmarket residential area in Cape Town, an exclusive neighbourhood on the Atlantic Seaboard outside the bigger and busier Sea Point. A smaller and more private neighbourhood, Bantry Bay overlooks scenic rocks and crashing waves and offers a choice selection of elite properties for a higher-end market.
One of the biggest attractions of Bantry Bay is the fact that it has the least wind in Cape Town. Due to its secluded geographic location, Bantry Bay is spared the blast of the Southeastern wind and visitors here can look forward to 290 days without wind – a major factor for anyone booking a holiday in Cape Town!
Bantry Bay also boasts a gorgeous landscape with granite boulders in turquoise waters, framed by a rocky shoreline and the beautiful Twelve Apostles Mountains. It is situated about 25km from Cape Town International Airport and the city’s top beaches destinations of Clifton and Camps Bay are within walking distance or a short drive.
Its excellent location makes scenic drives to Hout Bay and Llandudno a breeze while the Table Mountain cable car and other top attractions like the Aquarium and V&A Waterfront are a short drive away.
Bantry Bay accommodation
Bantry Bay was originally called Botany Bay as there was a botanical garden here in which various plants were grown, mainly for medicinal purposes. The name was changed to Bantry Bay during World War I.
It has become a premier holiday rental spot in a city that is one of the country’s top tourist attractions. During peak holiday times the city fills up with local as well as international visitors who flock to the golden beaches, the gorgeous seaside restaurants and the trendy shops.
Indeed, Bantry Bay is a favourite with travellers in the know or who have a bit of experience when it comes to the city of Cape Town. Due to its wind-free location and a short distance to the major beaches, there is less traffic to contend with and more privacy for guests who value solitude and peace and quiet.

Things to do in Bantry Bay
One of the biggest advantages of Bantry Bay is that it is secluded and more peaceful than bustling Sea Point, while still close to restaurants, shops and the city centre.
It is situated on a small bay with scenic granite boulders and outcrops. These rocks are of some interest to geologists and divers will also find a dive site here worthy of some exploration. It is a marine protected area as well, making it of interest to those interested in the ocean and sea life.
In addition, Bantry Bay is situated at the end of the 11km long promenade, which begins in Mouille Point and runs all along the Sea Point coastline and ends in Bantry Bay. Walking along the promenade is lovely at all times of the day and as it has railings, small children will enjoy it as well. The paved way is very convenient for mothers with strollers for babies.
Self-catering Bantry Bay accommodation
Over the past few years, there has been a trend away from big hotels and resort-type establishments as more travellers choose self-catering accommodations with state-of-the-art facilities and services.
This ensures that visitors can stay in luxurious abodes while visiting Cape Town, able to organise their own meals and plan daily itineraries while relaxing in the comfort of their booked vacation home, surrounded only by their families and friends.
Bantry Bay offers visitors excellent accommodations with designer kitchens, upmarket finishes as well as gorgeous views, private plunge pools and Jacuzzis, as well as extras like underfloor heating, air conditioning and outdoor entertainment patios.
A little extra...
Luxury villa accommodation in Bantry Bay is ideal for visitors who would like to experience the best the city of Cape Town has to offer. Beautiful scenery, close proximity to top beaches like Camps Bay and Clifton as well as easy access to the city centre and the V&A Waterfront are bonuses.
One of the nicest places to go to is Saunders Rock Beach, where it is possible to have a swim in the ocean and enjoy the refreshing cold water without crowds of tourists all around.
This is the perfect place for a picnic too and for families with children, it may be an idea to pack a light lunch and come for a few hours of lazing on the sand, playing in the waves and enjoying the golden sunshine.
