It’s a serene little enclave and visitors to Bakoven are often surprised to discover that there are no shops or restaurants there. But the good news is that as the suburb inches up the slopes towards the dramatic buttresses and peaks of Table Mountain’s 12 Apostles range, Bakoven merges with the more famous and perennially glamorous Camps Bay.

Camps Bay is for many the epicentre of the Atlantic seaboard. A short distance along the coast from Bakoven, Camps Bay offers even more luxurious villa accommodation and has all the facilities - shops, a supermarket, cocktail bars, great restaurants, banking amenities - you’ll need for a hassle-free, independent living holiday.

Camps Bay also has a classic golden sand beach which, compared to Bakoven’s small pebble beach, will be more popular on a family beach holiday. What Bakoven’s beach does offer however is a little more seclusion and less frantic activity than the see-and-be-seen Camps Bay.
And there’s more: Cape Town city centre and the V&A Waterfront are an easy northbound drive over the saddle of Kloof Nek via the turn-off for Table Mountain and the cable car, while a drive along the spectacular coast in the other direction will lead you to magical, tucked-away Llandudno and the ever popular seaside village of Hout Bay.
