Krisjan-se-nek picnic area

Renowned South African writer Dalene Matthee based most of her books on the forest dwellers in the Knysna Forest. Start a 3 or 9 km walk from the famous Dalene Matthee Big Tree at Krisjan-se-Nek Picnic Site, following an old mining path along the bank of Forest Creek. This picnic spot is perfect for a summer’s day with water holes just right for a quick dip to cool down.

Jubilee Creek picnic site

A lovely picnic spot awaits on the banks of a creek in the Lush Knysna indigenous forest. Situated down in a valley, deep in the forest next to a cool forest stream, this picnic spot offers wooden tables and benches, braai (fire) facilities, water and bush toilets.

King Edward VII picnic site

Go for a picnic under one of the biggest trees in the forest – an Outeniqua Yellowwood of over 650 years old that are standing 40m high and has a trunk circumference of 7m. A bush toilet, tables and braai areas are available.

Kranshoek picnic site

Take a blanket, ball, kids and a picnic basket and enjoy some of the best forest and sea views along the Garden Route. Wooden tables, ablutions, drinking water and fireplaces are available on site.

Woodville picnic site

Tread lightly as you enter this delightful picnic area where you could disturb the forest fairies! Ample forest tables to choose from, toilets, water and wheelchair accessible.

Victoria Bay

This beautiful sheltered bay provides an excellent place to sit on the grass, enjoy a picnic and gaze at the sea and the surfers. It is clearly signposted between Wilderness village on the N2 in the direction of George.

Sixth Avenue

This quiet Cul de Sac in Wilderness reveals a picnic location with amazing beach views. It is situated just off the boardwalk down towards the beach and has no facilities.

Gallinule bird hide

Ask for the keys to the hide from the Fairy Knowe Hotel reception and enjoy a quiet picnic at this lovely, sheltered spot while viewing endemic bird species. Ablution facilities are available at the hotel.

Island Lake Recreational Area

This picnic spot is set on the shores of Island Lake and offers beautiful birdlife, peaceful surroundings, a jungle gym for the kids and full ablution facilities.
