Accommodation Cape Town

Spoilt for choice with Cape Town accommodation

Rest assured, you have plenty of choices when looking for Cape Town accommodation.

If you refuse to bunk down in your mother’s friend’s son’s apartment in the Mother City, you will be pleased to learn that Cape Town offers a variety of accommodation choices to suit any budget.

Top spots

The most prized tourist areas are the V&A Waterfront, the Atlantic seaboard (with stunning ocean and beach facing suburbs such as Mouille Point, Three Anchor Bay, Sea Point, Bantry Bay, Camps Bay and Bakoven) and the city bowl where you will be snug up against Table Mountain (inner city, Bo-Kaap, Tamboerskloof, Oranjezicht, Vredehoek and Devil’s Peak).

There is usually a premium to pay for choosing to stay in the most popular areas. Cape Town offers a choice of hotels from large international brands to boutique style hotels. You can choose from a range of five-star to budget hotels, bed & breakfasts and guesthouses. Backpackers are also a popular inexpensive tourist option. Self-catering options are aplenty and you will find anything from luxury holiday villas and apartments to low-priced studios and bedsits.

Leafy and established

Classical and exclusive accommodation options are available in Cape Town’s Southern Suburbs, home to the country’s first wine growing areas such as Steenberg and Constantia. If you like green and leafy, you can stay in the shadow of Table Mountain in prized areas such as Bishopscourt (yes, where the Archbishop Desmond Tutu had his official residence) or stopover at an award-winning and historical wine farm. All of this is still just a hop, skip and jump away from the centre of Cape Town.

Budget selection

Tourists on a shoestring budget can look for accommodation in suburbs further afield for off the beaten track experiences and local interaction. The arty Observatory is still very central and popular amongst Bohemian types while Dolphin Beach and Bloubergstrand to the West attract tourists who seek the wind to pursue kite-surfing and other nautical adventures. Surfers often favour the South Peninsula and flock to holiday spots such as Muizenberg and Kommetjie, while families with small children tend to prefer the Fish Hoek seaside with its slightly warmer water, thanks to the Indian Ocean.

Winelands

When your wish list says wine, wine and some more wine, you can find accommodation options in Cape Town’s Northern suburbs such as Bellville, Kuils River and Durbanville to nudge up against the wine regions of Stellenbosch, Somerset West, Franschhoek, Paarl and Wellington. Or simply take your pick and overnight in any of these Boland towns, they are all still less than an hour’s drive from Cape Town. You will also find a wide range of accommodation options here, including guest houses, bed & breakfasts and self-catering accommodation.

Whatever floats your boat, Cape Town and surrounds offer magical holiday options. You are sure to find the perfect Cape Town accommodation that suits your pocket and needs and that will afford you the vacation of a lifetime.
