It is well-known for its wine route, fruit farms as well as its spectacular views of the local vineyards, orchards, mountain ranges and some of the Cape’s most wonderfully renovated buildings. The striking Tulbagh valley is almost completely surrounded by majestic mountain ranges, which become snow-capped during the winter time.
Tulbagh is just over an hour’s drive from Cape Town. The beautiful little village lies nestled between the Winterhoek, Witzenberg and Obiqua Mountains, offering visitors some of the most breathtaking views in the Western Cape region.
Tulbagh is blessed with rich, fertile soil and fruit – the bulk of which is made up of peaches, pears as well as over 60% of the country’s plums are grown right here. The valley is also famous for producing some of the country’s finest wines.

Wild Proteas and herbs like Buchu grow naturally in the mountains and some flowers even spill over onto the sides of the road. This is a great spot for outdoor adventures like hiking, mountain biking, horse riding and fishing.
Church Street is an attraction you cannot miss. During the 1960’s an earthquake decimated the area, years later the old buildings were restored and now this road is famous for having the highest concentration of National Monuments in a single street. There are art galleries, curio shops and other charming stores throughout the town as well as a multitude of restaurants and coffee shops.
