Mossel Bay

Mossel Bay offers visitors a wide variety of attractions, from adventure to family activities as well as cultural experiences and pristine beaches with warm waters.

The coastal town of Mossel Bay can trace its origins back to 1488 when it was discovered by seafarer Bartholomew Dias. This interesting town marks the beginning of the Garden Route. It is positioned to provide easy access to inland and seaside adventures and wonderful beaches.

Mossel Bay is located exactly halfway between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth, making it the ideal mid-way break on a coastal road trip.

This town was initially developed as a busy export harbour for wool, ochre and ostrich feathers. It was renamed in 1601 as Mossel Bay and this town is still known today for its fine mussels, which can be gathered in spring.

The Garden Route with its spectacular natural beauty plays host to fynbos and forestry. This area offers visitors a wide variety of attractions, from adventure to family activities, cultural experiences, local cuisine and pristine beaches.

Visitors on day trips from Mossel Bay can discover the semi-arid Karoo town of Oudtshoorn with its Cango Caves and famous ostrich farms, or venture to George and Knysna for some shopping and sightseeing.
