Franschhoek

Franschhoek

The wine farms around Franschhoek produce world-renowned wines, and the town boasts restaurants that impress even the most discerning gourmands.

Franschhoek is well known for its outstanding beauty, excellent Cape wines and top-class restaurants. This striking area is a definite must-visit destination for anybody exploring the Western Cape.

Franschhoek is located in the heart of one of the oldest and most beautiful wine routes in the country. It is a wine lover’s delight and many of South Africa’s oldest, most renowned wine estates are situated here. The Vineyards and Wine farms produce some of South Africa’s top wine, and many of the estates still have their original French names and boast superb examples of the old Cape Dutch architecture.

The magnificent Franschhoek Valley is nestled right beneath the high mountains of the gorgeous Western Cape Winelands. It is well known as the food and wine heartland of the country, where fabulous wines are cultivated and the top chefs produce impeccable dishes. The breath-taking scenery, sincere hospitality, outstanding cuisine and fine wines create lifelong memories for visitors.

Franschhoek’s village is home to a delightful assortment of art and antique shops as well as galleries and eating establishments. Even though this charismatic little town is first and foremost known for its food and wine, it also offers a range of other activities to enjoy including world-class golf courses, wine tasting on horseback, cycling excursions, hot air ballooning and even paragliding opportunities off the Franschhoek Mountains.

Franschhoek serves as an excellent springboard to explore other wine routes further afield and there are a variety of walking trails to choose from in the surrounding mountains, for more energetic holidaymakers looking for adventure.
