Clifton is located between Bantry Bay and Camps Bay and is situated right at the bottom of Lion’s Head. It is a trendy suburb that boasts four beautiful beaches that are highly popular and wind-free!
Clifton is an upmarket suburb located adjacent to Bantry Bay, between Sea Point and Camps Bay with Table Mountain as the backdrop. It is an incredible beach area, where the rich and famous like to play and the ‘ín crowd’ comes to see and be seen.
Granite boulders divide the beach into four sections know as First, Second, Third and Fourth Beach. Clifton’s beaches can be accessed via steep stairs leading down from the road.
First beach is popular with surfers, while Second Beach is a favourite with students and beach sports enthusiasts. Third Beach offers a more private setting and Clifton Fourth is the largest and most popular. These beaches have many amenities like toilet facilities, showers, umbrellas and chair hire, as well as snack vendors who walk up and down with refreshments. Clifton Fourth is popular because of it’s calm waters ad lifeguards on duty during peak holiday season. Sunbathing, playing frisbee and beach volleyball are popular activities.
The Clifton Beaches have been rated one of the top 10 beaches in South Africa and is famous for its striking sunsets. It is a popular spot to enjoy a sundowner – during Summer evenings, many people pack a picnic basket and head off to the beach!

Clifton is great for summer holidays. The summer season runs from October to March, but during December and January it becomes crowded with local South Africans on vacation as well as tourists. Autumn days are cool and crisp and the best time for hiking or walking trails.
